Austria passport guide

Uganda eVisa for Austrian Citizens

Austria's Uganda guidance distinguishes a travel passport from ID Austria and from special travel documents. Start there rather than assuming that a digital identity accepted at home is an international entry document. Once the passport is settled, prepare the Uganda-only or regional itinerary and review the traveller's information before sending a request.

The short answer

Do Austrian citizens need a visa for Uganda?

Austrian ordinary-passport holders require a visa for Uganda. BMEIA lists online application, a passport with at least six months of validity at entry and presentation of the confirmation when entering. It states that ID Austria electronic identification is accepted only within Austria. Follow Uganda's actual issued authorisation and category instructions; a domestic digital identity does not replace the passport application files.

Prepare the Austrian passport rather than an ID Austria record

BMEIA's Uganda entry information names a passport as the travel document and explicitly limits ID Austria electronic identification to Austria. Use the passport biodata page when preparing the Uganda upload. A domestic identity screen, a driving document or an image of an electronic credential should not be substituted merely because it identifies you for services at home.

Check the passport number, expiry and complete name against the traveller's booking information. When a passport will be renewed before departure, resolve the document you intend to carry before submitting its details. Keep a readable copy of the final biodata page, including its machine-readable lines. The identity used in the form and the identity presented for travel need to remain consistent.

Read emergency and non-national document guidance separately

The Austrian page discusses the cream-coloured emergency passport and convention or alien passports separately from an ordinary passport. That distinction is relevant before choosing an application route. This guide is written for an ordinary Austrian passport; it is not a blanket determination for every document issued in Austria or for a foreign national holding Austrian residence permission.

If a special document is involved, give the relevant authorities its exact type and your intended travel sequence before paying. Check the airline and transit-country requirements as well as Uganda's acceptance. Avoid choosing Austrian nationality solely because an Austrian office issued a residence card or another travel-related document. The passport nationality and current residence are separate entries in the application.

Your application decision

ID Austria is ready, but the passport files still need preparation

Planning example: An Austrian traveller wants one Uganda holiday and has a domestic digital identity available. Prepare the actual international travel document for the upload.

  • Use the passport biodata page rather than the ID Austria screen.
  • Resolve a special or emergency document under its separate guidance.
  • Compare the saved scan with the booking and review screen.

Prepare the Austrian passport upload →

Passport references are listed in the sources below. This example helps prepare a decision; it is not a record of a customer’s application or a guarantee of eligibility.

Get your documents ready

Uganda eVisa requirements for Austrian passport holders

For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.

  • Passport biodata page

A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.

  • Recent passport photograph

A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.

  • Return ticket

Your return flight or onward travel booking.

  • Accommodation and travel plan

Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.

Upload preparation

The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.

Visa options and total prices

Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.

Tourist Visa

USD 99

One tourist visit to Uganda. A stay of up to three months can be granted; follow the conditions on your authorisation.

Start Tourist Visa →

East Africa Tourist Visa

USD 199

Tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for 90 days. Enter Uganda first when applying through Uganda. It ends if you leave the three-country area and is not renewable.

Prepare a detailed itinerary in addition to the tourist documents.

Choose East Africa Tourist Visa →

Multiple Visa

From USD 199

For repeated visits to Uganda: USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. Validity does not mean you can stay continuously for that entire period.

Additional evidence includes police clearance, two Uganda referee letters, a reason for multiple entry and proof of Uganda entries and exits during the previous year.

Review Multiple Visa →

Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.

Compare the trip's destinations before choosing the product

BMEIA points travellers to both a Uganda-only online visa and the regional tourism option for Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. To choose between them, write the first entry, the countries visited and the final departure in order. A Uganda-first holiday involving the participating destinations is a different itinerary from one visit wholly within Uganda, even if both last the same number of days.

A planning example is an Austrian traveller arriving at Entebbe and continuing to Kigali. Compare the regional guide and prepare the detailed itinerary. If the trip instead begins in Kenya, check the Kenya issuing route. If it leaves the three-country area before a Uganda return, resolve that additional entry question rather than treating the regional name as permission for every East African country.

Use the review screen to check the final document version

Before sending the request, open the exact saved files and compare them with the summary. German-language booking material should be prepared with English supporting information as requested by the Uganda instructions. Check that exporting a scan to a smaller file has not removed a passport edge or made a date unreadable. A successful attachment is not a content or authenticity assessment.

Keep the request reference, correspondence and any issued authorisation together with the passport information used. BMEIA travel advice and consular help remain separate from the service handling a visa request. For a question about this website's application, use Uganda Visa support; for a government request, use immigration's own status route. Neither a paid booking nor a reference number alone establishes entry permission.

Questions from Austrian travellers

Can ID Austria replace my passport in a Uganda application?

No. BMEIA's Uganda page lists a passport and says ID Austria electronic identification is accepted only in Austria. Prepare the actual travel-passport biodata page rather than a domestic digital identity record.

Does this guide cover a convention or alien passport issued in Austria?

No blanket acceptance is implied. The Austrian advice treats those documents separately. Confirm the exact document and route with the relevant authorities before applying; Austrian residence does not itself establish Austrian passport nationality.

Is a regional visa necessary for several Austrian-booked Uganda lodges?

The number of lodges does not decide the visa product. Compare destinations and international entries. A trip wholly within Uganda can be assessed against the single-entry Tourist option; a regional holiday has different route conditions.

Should I check the saved scan after reducing its file size?

Yes. Inspect the final attachment for complete passport details, readable dates and consistent names. The device-only tool checks reported file properties; it does not approve document content or guarantee immigration acceptance.

How much is a Uganda visa for Austrian citizens?

Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.

How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?

The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?

A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
