Do German citizens need a visa for Uganda?
German citizens need a visa to enter Uganda and apply online before travelling. Germany's Federal Foreign Office lists the passport as an accepted document and says the national identity card is not accepted. Travel documents need at least six months of validity at entry. Keep the emailed approval letter and the original travel documents ready for the border checks.

Take a passport, not only a Personalausweis
The Federal Foreign Office's Uganda entry guidance distinguishes the German passport from the national identity card: a Personalausweis is not accepted for this journey. Check the passport's expiry against your planned Uganda arrival before preparing an application. This is a different document check from a holiday within places where you normally travel using an identity card.
The German guidance also lists a temporary passport as an accepted document, but a traveller using one should still confirm the whole journey with the carrier and the authorities of any connecting country. Acceptance for Uganda does not establish every transit condition. If replacing a document, resolve the replacement first so the visa request uses the passport you will actually carry.

Read the safari package as a sequence of country entries
Before applying, ask your organiser to distinguish domestic travel inside Uganda from international border crossings. Several lodge stays still form one Uganda visit if you remain in the country. A route that leaves Uganda and later returns creates another entry question, even if everything is sold under one safari booking.
For example, a holiday starting in Uganda and continuing through Rwanda and Kenya may suit the East Africa Tourist Visa. Its coverage is limited to those three countries; it does not extend to Tanzania. If your package begins elsewhere, or leaves the three-country area, reassess the issuing country and subsequent entries. Ask the organiser for the final itinerary rather than relying on the package name.

A German safari with a Tanzania stop needs a return-entry check
Planning example: A German traveller visits Uganda, leaves for Tanzania and plans to return to Uganda. The route crosses outside the three-country regional area, so the words “East Africa safari” do not settle the visa choice.
- Write the country sequence and intended Uganda re-entry date before choosing a product.
- Compare the ordinary Multiple Entry requirements and confirm return permission; do not rely on the tour name as proof.
- Use a passport rather than a Personalausweis, and resolve any temporary-passport or transit-document question before starting.

The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.
Checklist: live immigration portal and tourist visa guidance. Check current entry-document notices and your departure-country travel advice before travel; older category checklists can differ.
Visa options and total prices
Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.
Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.
Keep the application and arrival documents consistent
The Federal Foreign Office describes an online application followed by an approval letter sent by email; the passport, original documents and letter are presented on entry. Before travelling, compare the approved identity details with your current passport and save the letter where it can be retrieved without mobile data. Keep a paper copy in your hand luggage as a practical backup.
When preparing German-language booking material for the application, ask for an English itinerary if needed; Uganda's regional visa instructions require English attachments. Check names, dates and the first accommodation address for consistency. These are preparation checks, not a blanket demand to replace your passport or purchase a particular document-translation service.

Check the stay recorded on arrival and review travel advice
A planned return flight is not the same as permission to remain until that date. Germany's guidance advises checking the stay entered in the passport on arrival. Compare that record with the dates of your holiday and seek clarification from immigration promptly if something appears inconsistent. Keep the entry record with the other journey documents.
Read the current German travel advice for the specific districts and parks in your itinerary shortly before departure. The Foreign Office recommends its crisis-registration system, ELEFAND, for overseas stays. Registration helps with consular communication; it does not arrange a Uganda visa or approve a safari route. Share updated local contacts and travel plans with the people who need to reach you.

Questions from German travellers
Can German citizens enter Uganda with a national identity card?
No. Germany's Federal Foreign Office lists the Personalausweis as not accepted for entry to Uganda. Prepare an accepted passport or travel document and check its validity before applying. Your usual identity-card travel arrangements within Europe do not settle Uganda's document requirements.

Is a German temporary passport accepted for Uganda?
The Federal Foreign Office lists the temporary passport as accepted for Uganda. Confirm current acceptance with Uganda and check the airline and any transit country's rules before travel. A document being accepted at the destination does not automatically establish the conditions for every connection.

Does a German safari booking automatically include permission to return to Uganda?
No. Establish each international entry separately. A Uganda-only tour differs from one that leaves and returns. Compare single-entry, regional and repeated-entry routes against the final itinerary; the fact that all travel was purchased in one package does not determine the visa category.

What should German travellers check in their passport after arrival?
Check the stay recorded by immigration and compare it with your intended departure. The German Foreign Office specifically recommends reviewing that entry. If the record appears wrong or unclear, seek clarification promptly rather than assuming the original booking determines the permitted stay.

How much is a Uganda visa for German citizens?
Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.
How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?
The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?
A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
