Do Belgian citizens need a visa for Uganda?
Belgian citizens travelling on an ordinary Belgian passport need a visa for a tourist visit to Uganda and can apply online before departure. Belgium is not on Uganda's ordinary-passport exemption list. Check that your passport has at least six months of validity from arrival, prepare the travel details for your actual itinerary and obtain your immigration approval before travelling.

Use your passport, not your Belgian identity card
A Belgian eID is convenient for many European journeys, but your Uganda application should be based on the international passport you will carry. Belgium's Uganda advice specifies a valid travel document and visa, with six months of remaining validity at arrival. Before scanning anything, check the expiry against the Uganda arrival date rather than the day you leave Brussels.
Compare the names on your passport, tickets and bookings before entering the form. A booking prepared by another person may shorten given names or use a familiar name; the visa record needs the passport particulars. Keep a readable passport copy separately from the original. Belgium's general travel-document guidance recommends copies and spare passport pages for travel outside the European Union.

Organise a Belgian family application person by person
For a family holiday, create a small document set for each traveller instead of one combined file containing everyone's passports and photographs. That makes it easier to match each application to the correct child or adult. Record who is travelling together, where the family will first stay and which booking contains their names. This is a preparation method, not an additional Ugandan document requirement.
Belgian Foreign Affairs notes that border officials may check the relationship between a child and an accompanying adult. When a child travels with one parent or has a different surname, check the applicable parental-consent and relationship documents with the carrier and relevant authorities. A visa does not settle custody questions or replace any departure and transit checks that apply to the child's journey.

A Belgian family visit plan: check purpose before choosing Tourist
Planning example: A Belgian traveller describes the journey as a holiday but also has an organised placement. Establish the actual purpose before paying, rather than treating every short trip as a tourist visit.
- Describe any volunteering or internship accurately and ask which permission fits before using the Tourist route.
- For a tourism-only trip, prepare the passport and individual traveller files rather than the Belgian eID.
- If travelling with children, check the relevant family-document advice and each child’s passport separately.

The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.
Checklist: live immigration portal and tourist visa guidance. Check current entry-document notices and your departure-country travel advice before travel; older category checklists can differ.
Visa options and total prices
Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.
Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.
A safari holiday and a volunteering placement need different checks
A trip to see wildlife, visit cultural sites and take a holiday is a straightforward tourism scenario. A stay arranged around an internship or volunteer placement needs a separate assessment, even if you add a few sightseeing days. Belgian advice for Uganda explicitly includes volunteering and internships among activities for which travellers should regularise their status with Ugandan authorities.
If an organisation has invited you, ask it to describe the actual activities and confirm the appropriate immigration route before selecting a tourist product. Do not describe a placement as a holiday simply because it is unpaid. If your plans are purely recreational, gather the overnight addresses and your route in a simple order so that the travel details in your application reflect the trip you intend to take.

Make the first East Africa arrival clear
For example, a Belgian traveller arriving in Uganda, touring there and then continuing to Rwanda can compare the East Africa Tourist Visa with separate permissions. The regional visa covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda; an application issued through Uganda requires Uganda to be the first country of entry. Draw the country sequence before choosing the visa, particularly when different companies arranged the flights and ground tour.
A journey that starts in Nairobi requires a different issuing-country decision from a journey starting at Entebbe. A holiday continuing into Tanzania also needs a separate check because Tanzania is outside this three-country visa. Once the route is settled, keep the approval, accommodation details and onward arrangements accessible during travel, and consider recording the trip with Belgium's Travellers Online service.

Questions from Belgian travellers
Can I travel to Uganda with a Belgian eID instead of a passport?
Use a valid international passport for your Uganda visa application and journey. Belgium's Uganda advice requires a travel document with at least six months of validity from arrival and a valid visa. An identity card used for European travel does not replace that preparation.

Can Belgian travellers apply for a Uganda visa at the airport?
Belgian Foreign Affairs states that Uganda visa applications must be made online and can no longer be submitted at the airport. Complete the process before departure and allow time for questions or extra evidence instead of relying on an arrival application.

Is a Uganda Tourist Visa appropriate for a Belgian volunteer?
A volunteer placement should be checked separately with Ugandan immigration and the host organisation. Belgium's official advice includes volunteering and internships among activities requiring the proper immigration arrangements. Adding sightseeing to a placement does not automatically make the whole visit a tourist holiday.

Does Belgium's embassy decide or guarantee my Uganda visa?
No. Uganda's authorities decide visa applications and admission. Belgian consular services provide assistance within their remit, but Belgian Foreign Affairs explains that they cannot intervene in third-country visa decisions. Use the immigration reference and the appropriate application channel for visa questions.

How much is a Uganda visa for Belgian citizens?
Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.
How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?
The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?
A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
