Do French citizens need a visa for Uganda?
French citizens travelling on ordinary passports need a visa for Uganda and can apply online in advance. France Diplomatie confirms that travellers should arrive with an approval obtained through Uganda's electronic system, rather than rely on visa on arrival. Your tourism preparation includes a passport with at least six months of validity, consistent travel details and the issued authorisation available for inspection.

An application receipt is not the French traveller's departure document
France Diplomatie directs French citizens to obtain their Uganda visa online before travel and print the immigration response for presentation on arrival. Keep track of what each message means: an acknowledgement records that an application exists, while the decision tells you whether travel has been authorised. Do not treat a completed form or a payment receipt as the approval itself.
When an authorisation arrives, review the passport number, name, visa category and dates before printing it. Retain an accessible digital copy as a backup, together with the application reference. If a detail is wrong, resolve it through the appropriate application channel before departure instead of assuming that a boarding agent or border officer can correct the record.

Prepare a coherent file when your bookings are in French
A holiday booked through a French-speaking organiser can contain several documents: a flight reservation, a tour programme and a separate accommodation confirmation. Check that each describes the same traveller and journey. The English-language immigration form should be completed from your passport and actual itinerary, not by translating names or guessing what a shortened booking label means.
Uganda's service guidance asks for attachments in English. Where a supporting booking does not clearly show the relevant details in English, ask its issuer for a suitable version or confirm the accepted document with immigration. This does not mean that every French document needs notarisation. Keep a simple list of your arrival, first address and departure to avoid contradictory dates across the form and attachments.

A French safari booking does not replace the approval check
Planning example: A French traveller has booked a safari and received an application acknowledgement. Before departure, distinguish the reference for a submitted request from the actual authorisation and its conditions.
- Use the email and reference from the provider handling your request; our lookup is for requests made through Uganda Visa.
- Inspect any issued permission and keep the travel copy requested by the official instructions.
- Changing the flight or registering with Fil d’Ariane does not itself extend or issue Uganda immigration permission.

Uganda eVisa requirements for French passport holders
For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.
Passport biodata page
A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.
Recent passport photograph
A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.
Return ticket
Your return flight or onward travel booking.
Accommodation and travel plan
Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.
The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.
Checklist: live immigration portal and tourist visa guidance. Check current entry-document notices and your departure-country travel advice before travel; older category checklists can differ.
Visa options and total prices
Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.
Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.
Choose the regional visa around where you enter first
Consider two example itineraries from France: arriving at Entebbe for a Uganda holiday, or arriving in Kigali before continuing into Uganda. Both include Uganda, but they do not have the same issuing-country starting point for an East Africa Tourist Visa. For the Uganda-issued regional visa, the first admission to the three-country area must be through Uganda.
The East Africa Tourist Visa covers tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for its stated validity and ends when you leave that block. If your route includes a Tanzanian safari, a separate trip outside the area or an intention to work, review those plans separately. A standard Uganda single-entry visa should not be read as permission to enter the neighbouring countries.

Keep visa follow-up separate from French consular preparation
France's Fil d'Ariane service lets travellers record a journey and receive relevant alert messages. It can be useful preparation for a holiday, particularly when your route changes during the visit. It is separate from the Uganda eVisa application: registering your trip there neither creates an immigration file nor confirms a Ugandan visa decision.
Before leaving, save the current French advice for Uganda, your insurer's contact details and the relevant consular contacts from official sources. Check the visa application's own email or status channel for questions about approval. If your stay must be extended, France Diplomatie directs travellers to Uganda's local immigration authorities; an airline change or an extra hotel booking does not itself extend permission to stay.

Questions from French travellers
Can French citizens obtain a Uganda visa on arrival?
France Diplomatie says visa on arrival has been suspended and travellers must arrive with approval obtained online. Prepare the eVisa before departure, retain the issued authorisation and check it against your passport. An application acknowledgement alone does not show that approval has been granted.

Should I print my Uganda visa approval before leaving France?
Yes. France's official Uganda guidance instructs travellers to print the immigration response and present it on entry. Review the details first and keep an accessible digital backup. Carry the original passport used in the application; the printout does not replace that passport.

Does registering on Fil d'Ariane submit my Uganda visa application?
No. Fil d'Ariane is a French travel-alert service. Uganda's eVisa is a separate immigration process, with its own application and decision. You can use both for their different purposes, but a travel registration is not evidence of a visa or permission to enter Uganda.

Can I extend my French traveller's Uganda stay by changing my return ticket?
A new return ticket does not change immigration permission. France Diplomatie states that tourist-visa extension formalities are handled with Uganda's local immigration services. Check the period actually granted and seek the appropriate guidance before it expires if your plans change.

How much is a Uganda visa for French citizens?
Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.
How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?
The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?
A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
