Italy passport guide

Uganda eVisa for Italian Citizens

For Italian visitors, a Uganda holiday requires a passport and a visa arranged before travel. The useful preparation is to connect the travel document, tour confirmation and country order in one consistent application. This guide addresses Italian travel-document questions and helps you organise either a Uganda stay or a wider East Africa journey.

The short answer

Do Italian citizens need a visa for Uganda?

Italian ordinary-passport holders need a visa for a tourist visit to Uganda and can apply online before departure. Prepare the passport you will travel with, with at least six months of validity, and a clear account of the holiday. The Italian Embassy in Kampala directs tourists to Uganda's online immigration system. A single Uganda visit and a regional Uganda-Kenya-Rwanda itinerary require different category checks.

Prepare the Italian passport you will actually travel with

Use the passport details page as your reference when entering names, document number and validity dates. Travel documents used for journeys elsewhere in Europe should not be treated as a substitute for Uganda's passport requirement. Uganda's tourist instructions specify a passport biodata page and at least six months of validity. Resolve an upcoming passport replacement before using the old details in a new application.

The Italian Embassy explains that temporary and ordinary passports are distinct document types. If your journey involves a temporary document, a lost passport or an emergency replacement, obtain case-specific acceptance guidance rather than relying only on this ordinary-passport guide. Keep copies of the original application details so you can explain any document change to immigration and the carrier before departure.

Organise an Italian tour booking for an English application

If your tour operator sends a confirmation in Italian, use it to prepare a concise English summary of the journey: arrival and departure dates, first accommodation, local contact and the countries visited. This planning sheet helps you complete the fields accurately; it is not an official document or a replacement for the required supporting files. Request relevant English booking material from the operator where appropriate.

Uganda's published instructions say attached documents should be in English. Check what the selected category requests before preparing translations or extra paperwork. Keep name spellings aligned with the passport and check whether a group confirmation identifies you personally. If an accommodation changes during planning, update the preparation details before submitting instead of leaving two conflicting versions of the trip in the application.

Your application decision

Use Italian holiday bookings to build a clear English document set

Planning example: An Italian passport holder has accommodation and safari reservations written in Italian. Use them to check names and dates, then prepare the supporting information in the language requested by the Uganda application.

  • Compare the passenger name with the passport rather than copying an abbreviated booking label.
  • Make the accommodation address and travel sequence readable; do not assume the name of a tour identifies the first arrival.
  • The Italian consular service is separate from Uganda immigration permission; use the right channel for the question you need answered.

Uganda eVisa requirements for Italian passport holders

For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.

  • Passport biodata page

A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.

  • Recent passport photograph

A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.

  • Return ticket

Your return flight or onward travel booking.

  • Accommodation and travel plan

Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.

Upload preparation

The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.

Visa options and total prices

Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.

Tourist Visa

USD 99

One tourist visit to Uganda. A stay of up to three months can be granted; follow the conditions on your authorisation.

Start Tourist Visa →

East Africa Tourist Visa

USD 199

Tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for 90 days. Enter Uganda first when applying through Uganda. It ends if you leave the three-country area and is not renewable.

Prepare a detailed itinerary in addition to the tourist documents.

Choose East Africa Tourist Visa →

Multiple Visa

From USD 199

For repeated visits to Uganda: USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. Validity does not mean you can stay continuously for that entire period.

Additional evidence includes police clearance, two Uganda referee letters, a reason for multiple entry and proof of Uganda entries and exits during the previous year.

Review Multiple Visa →

Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.

Choose the visa around the route, not the longest stay

A holiday spent entirely in Uganda is different from a tour that crosses into Kenya or Rwanda. For one Uganda entry, review the single-entry Tourist Visa. For tourism across the three participating countries, compare the East Africa Tourist Visa. The Italian Embassy's tourism page describes both types, but Uganda Immigration's category conditions should guide the final route decision.

For a regional visa issued by Uganda, Uganda must be your first entry into the participating countries. For example, a tour that starts in Kenya and later reaches Uganda should not be presented as Uganda-first simply because the Uganda section is longer. Also mark any side trip outside Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda: leaving that area ends the regional visa, so a later return needs a fresh assessment.

Keep consular preparation separate from your visa request

Use Viaggiare Sicuri for current Italian travel advice and the Italian Embassy in Kampala for Italian consular matters. These resources support preparation but do not issue your Uganda immigration decision. Save the relevant official pages before departure, alongside the contact details you may need if a passport is lost. Recheck the advice for the areas included in your itinerary shortly before travel.

When your visa authorisation is issued, verify the document against the passport and the planned journey. Save a readable copy where you can access it without a live internet connection, and keep an email channel available for requests about the application. If a trip changes from a holiday into a different activity, seek category guidance instead of assuming a tour booking or an Italian consular registration changes the permission granted.

Questions from Italian travellers

Does an Italian identity card replace a passport for Uganda?

Prepare a passport for Uganda. The tourist application requires a passport biodata page with the specified validity. Do not base this journey on identity-card arrangements used for other destinations. Check the exact travel document before booking and use its details consistently in the visa form and travel reservations.

Can I upload supporting documents only in Italian?

Uganda's published visa instructions require attached documents in English. Review the requested evidence and obtain suitable English supporting material where necessary. This does not mean that every Italian document automatically requires notarisation; follow the actual category instructions and any specific request made during immigration's review.

Is the Italian Embassy's visa service the Uganda eVisa service?

No. For Uganda tourism, the Italian Embassy's tourism page directs travellers to Uganda's online immigration system. Italian consular services and visa services for entry into Italy are separate matters. Keep your Uganda application reference and any Italian consular correspondence organised according to the service involved.

Should an Italian traveller apply through Uganda for a Kenya-first tour?

For the East Africa Tourist Visa, the issuing country must be your first entry into the participating area. A Kenya-first itinerary therefore needs the appropriate Kenyan application route checked. Choose using the actual border sequence rather than the country where you intend to spend the most nights.

How much is a Uganda visa for Italian citizens?

Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.

How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?

The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?

A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
