Spain passport guide

Uganda eVisa for Spanish Citizens

Spanish citizens travelling to Uganda need to arrange a visa online before the journey. A useful application starts with the passport details, the actual purpose of the visit and the order of countries on the itinerary. This guide helps you prepare a leisure trip and use Spanish official resources for the checks that sit alongside a visa.

The short answer

Do Spanish citizens need a visa for Uganda?

Yes. Spanish ordinary-passport holders need a visa to enter Uganda for tourism and should apply online before departure. Spain's foreign ministry specifies a passport with at least six months of validity, says visas are no longer issued at the border, and advises printing the immigration response for arrival. Use the passport for the journey and select a category that matches a Uganda-only or regional holiday.

Use passport details rather than a DNI or shortened booking name

Spain's Uganda advice requires a passport with at least six months of validity. Begin with the passport you intend to carry and compare it with the flight or tour reservation. Enter surnames and given names in the corresponding application fields as shown on that document. For a traveller using two surnames, check that neither disappears merely because another booking system displays a shorter version.

The preparation task is to establish one consistent identity across the passport, application and supporting bookings, not to create a new spelling or translate a personal name. If a passport is being replaced, finish that process before applying with details that will change. Ask about a genuine mismatch before submission rather than assuming that an airline booking reference explains it to immigration.

Prepare booking evidence for the online form in English

A package confirmation in Spanish may contain all the holiday arrangements but spread the essential details across several pages. Identify your arrival date, first accommodation, local contact, planned exit and named traveller. Request suitable English supporting material where needed: Uganda's published category instructions say attached documents should be in English. The required files depend on the visa you select.

Prepare readable copies of relevant pages instead of a large collection of unrelated travel paperwork. Where a group tour moves between lodges, use the organiser's current information and keep the itinerary version consistent. This does not create a requirement to notarise every Spanish document. If immigration requests additional evidence, follow that request for your case rather than relying on a generic tour checklist.

Your application decision

Review both Spanish surnames before sending the application

Planning example: A Spanish traveller’s airline reservation shortens one of their surnames. Prepare the Uganda application from the passport and review the booking documents for consistency before sending the request.

  • Use the surname fields as shown in the passport instead of copying a shortened passenger label.
  • Use the passport biodata page; the DNI is a different document.
  • Keep Registro de Viajeros registration separate from the visa request and check the permission received before travel.

Uganda eVisa requirements for Spanish passport holders

For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.

  • Passport biodata page

A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.

  • Recent passport photograph

A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.

  • Return ticket

Your return flight or onward travel booking.

  • Accommodation and travel plan

Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.

Upload preparation

The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.

Visa options and total prices

Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.

Tourist Visa

USD 99

One tourist visit to Uganda. A stay of up to three months can be granted; follow the conditions on your authorisation.

Start Tourist Visa →

East Africa Tourist Visa

USD 199

Tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for 90 days. Enter Uganda first when applying through Uganda. It ends if you leave the three-country area and is not renewable.

Prepare a detailed itinerary in addition to the tourist documents.

Choose East Africa Tourist Visa →

Multiple Visa

From USD 199

For repeated visits to Uganda: USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. Validity does not mean you can stay continuously for that entire period.

Additional evidence includes police clearance, two Uganda referee letters, a reason for multiple entry and proof of Uganda entries and exits during the previous year.

Review Multiple Visa →

Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.

Decide the visa using your tour's first border crossing

Spain's foreign ministry describes both the Uganda tourist route and the East Africa Tourist Visa. For a single Uganda holiday, review the single-entry option. For a combined Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda holiday, map each border crossing and compare the regional category. A safari package's general East Africa label is not enough to identify which permission suits the actual route.

The country issuing an East Africa Tourist Visa must be your first entry into the participating countries. If your tour from Spain starts in Rwanda, do not select Uganda as issuer because a later section visits Uganda. Also check any excursion outside the three-country area: it ends the regional visa. A return to Uganda after such an excursion requires a separate entry assessment.

Take the approval and the current official advice with you

Spain's foreign ministry says the immigration response should be printed and presented on arrival. Check that the document is an approval authorisation for your case, rather than treating a receipt or submission reference as permission. Read its conditions, compare the passport number and keep a digital backup accessible during the journey. Carry the passport used in the application with the supporting travel details.

Before travel, read the current Spanish recommendations for the specific areas you plan to visit and consider using the ministry's Registro de Viajeros. That traveller registration supports consular preparation; it does not replace a Uganda visa request. If the trip includes journalistic or professional work rather than a leisure holiday, obtain appropriate guidance for that activity instead of describing it as ordinary sightseeing.

Questions from Spanish travellers

Can Spanish citizens get a Uganda visa at the border?

Spain's foreign ministry says visas are no longer issued at the border and describes an online application before travel. Prepare your request in advance and carry the issued approval as instructed. A plan to complete the application after arriving should not be used as your departure arrangement.

How should I enter two Spanish surnames in the application?

Use the surname and given-name fields from the passport details page as your reference. Check that the form and supporting bookings identify the same traveller. Do not omit a surname simply to match a shortened display on a tour confirmation; clarify any actual discrepancy before submitting the request.

Does registering with Registro de Viajeros apply for my Uganda visa?

No. Spain recommends its traveller register for consular preparation and possible emergencies. The Uganda visa is a separate immigration application, with its own documents and reference. Complete the relevant visa process and keep the two services' records distinguishable in your travel folder.

Can a Spanish tour start in Rwanda with a Uganda-issued regional visa?

The East Africa Tourist Visa's issuing country must be the first participating country you enter. For a Rwanda-first route, check the appropriate Rwandan application route. If applying through Uganda, the itinerary must meet Uganda-first entry conditions; the number of nights in each country does not change that rule.

How much is a Uganda visa for Spanish citizens?

Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.

How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?

The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?

A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
