Do Chinese citizens need a visa for Uganda?
Ordinary mainland Chinese passport holders need a visa for a tourist visit to Uganda and can apply online before travelling. Uganda's ordinary-passport exemption list does not include mainland China; it lists Hong Kong SAR separately. Use the travel document you will actually present, prepare its biodata page and select a visa that matches your destinations and purpose.

Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR are different passport checks
Uganda lists Hong Kong SAR among its ordinary-passport visa exemptions. That listing should not be applied to an ordinary mainland Chinese passport simply because the traveller lives in Hong Kong, departs from Hong Kong or holds a local residence document. Begin with the nationality and type printed on the passport used for the journey.
If members of your party use different passports, review each traveller separately. A mainland passport holder and a Hong Kong SAR passport holder can be on the same flight while needing different entry preparation. If your document is a travel permit or another special document, confirm the relevant conditions with immigration rather than selecting the closest nationality label.

Ask for usable English tour and accommodation details
Uganda's regional visa instructions require attachments in English. If your tour confirmation is only in Chinese, ask the operator for an English itinerary and accommodation information that you can read and check. This is especially useful when one organiser holds the hotel reservations for the whole group and individual travellers have only a Chinese booking summary.
As a preparation step, compare the Roman-letter name on the passport with the name on your ticket and booking. Ask your operator to correct a booking mismatch instead of changing the passport name to fit it. Keep the full first-stay address and a contact for the Uganda part of the tour available when entering your travel details.

Prepare a mainland Chinese group-tour application individually
Planning example: A mainland Chinese passport holder joins a tour that starts in Uganda and continues through the participating regional destinations. A shared tour plan can support preparation, but every traveller still needs their own passport details and files.
- Match the guide to the actual passport; mainland Chinese and Hong Kong SAR documents should not be treated as interchangeable.
- Obtain supporting documents in English and a route showing where the group first arrives.
- Use each traveller’s own photograph and passport page rather than one combined group file in every upload field.

Uganda eVisa requirements for Chinese passport holders
For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.
Passport biodata page
A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.
Recent passport photograph
A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.
Return ticket
Your return flight or onward travel booking.
Accommodation and travel plan
Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.
The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.

A tourist visit does not authorise employment
China's Embassy in Uganda has reminded Chinese citizens to keep their visas and residence permissions lawful and not to work or remain illegally on tourist or ordinary visitor visas. If your trip includes a job assignment, onsite duties or a proposed move, establish the appropriate immigration route with the host and Uganda immigration before applying as a tourist.
For an organised holiday, keep the application focused on the real tour: where the group arrives, the Uganda nights, any border crossings and the departure. If an agent assists with the form, still review the details yourself. A general description such as visiting Africa does not explain whether the journey is a Uganda holiday, a regional tour or employment.

Check the first country on an East Africa group tour
A package labelled East Africa can include destinations outside the regional tourist visa. Uganda's East Africa Tourist Visa covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, and the issuing country must be the first entry point. Ask for the international border order before choosing a Uganda-issued regional application. An airport connection is not enough information to determine which country you enter first.
For example, a tour entering Uganda first and then sightseeing in Kenya has a different application route from one beginning with a Kenya stay. A package adding Tanzania also needs separate planning. Give the actual itinerary to the organiser and ask which permissions cover each entry, especially if the advertised trip has changed after the initial deposit.

Wait for the immigration decision before travelling. Check the name, passport number, dates and conditions on any approval, and carry it with your passport.

Questions from Chinese travellers
Does Hong Kong residence exempt a mainland Chinese passport holder?
The exemption list identifies Hong Kong SAR separately; it is not a general exemption for anyone resident there. If you travel on an ordinary mainland Chinese passport, use the mainland Chinese visa route and check the actual passport rather than the departure airport.

Can my Uganda group-tour itinerary be supplied in Chinese only?
Prepare an English version for the application documents. Uganda's regional visa guidance says attachments should be in English. Ask the organiser to include the border sequence, stay dates and accommodation contacts, then check that the details agree with your own bookings.

Can I use a tourist visa for a work placement arranged by a Chinese company?
Do not treat a company placement as tourism automatically. The Chinese Embassy warns against unlawful work on tourist or ordinary visitor visas. Ask the company and Uganda immigration to establish the correct permission for the duties before submitting a tourist request.

Should a Chinese group entering Kenya first request its regional visa through Uganda?
The issuing country must be the first entry point for the East Africa Tourist Visa. If your tour first enters Kenya, check the regional application route with Kenya. Only choose Uganda as issuer when Uganda is the actual first country of entry.

How much is a Uganda visa for Chinese citizens?
Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.
How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?
The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?
A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
