Russia passport guide

Uganda eVisa for Russian Citizens

A Russian ordinary international passport needs its own Uganda visa assessment; a diplomatic or official arrangement should not be applied to an ordinary holiday. Choose the passport that will be carried, preserve the same identity across the request and bookings, and check whether the journey is one Uganda visit, a regional holiday or repeated entries.

The short answer

Do Russian citizens need a visa for Uganda?

Russian ordinary-passport holders need a visa for a Uganda holiday. Uganda lists Russia in its separate diplomatic and official passport arrangements, not its ordinary-passport exemption list. The inspected online nationality choice is Russian Federation. Prepare the application using the international passport you will actually carry, and review the passport number and personal details before sending the request.

Separate ordinary tourist travel from diplomatic arrangements

Uganda's published exemption list has distinct sections for ordinary nationalities and diplomatic or official passports. Russia appears in the latter section. Do not use that entry as proof that an ordinary Russian holiday passport is exempt. Begin with the actual travel document and purpose, and ask the appropriate authority about any special or official case before paying for a tourist request.

A newspaper headline or another traveller's experience may describe a different passport category. Check the scope rather than assuming a shared nationality produces an identical decision. An online nationality selection is part of preparing an application, not evidence that a diplomatic exemption applies or that immigration will approve every request. Give accurate details about the document and visit throughout the process.

Choose the international passport you will present for travel

Russia's consular passport information concerns the passport identifying a citizen outside the Russian Federation and describes situations involving a second passport. If you hold more than one international travel passport, decide which document will be used for this journey. Prepare its biodata page and copy its number and expiry consistently. This guide does not determine the validity or acceptability of every passport type.

Compare the Latin-script personal details in that passport with the form and the passenger reservations. Do not mix the number from one valid passport with a scan or name entry from another. If a document has been replaced or personal details have changed, resolve the identity record before applying. An existing Uganda permission should not be assumed to transfer automatically to a different travel document.

Your application decision

A Russian traveller chooses between two international passports

Planning example: The traveller plans one Uganda holiday and holds more than one international passport. Choose which document will be presented before uploading its details.

  • Keep the scan, number, Latin-script names and expiry together.
  • Review Russian Federation as the form nationality.
  • Do not apply a diplomatic arrangement to the ordinary holiday passport.

Uganda eVisa requirements for Russian passport holders

For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.

  • Passport biodata page

A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.

  • Recent passport photograph

A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.

  • Return ticket

Your return flight or onward travel booking.

  • Accommodation and travel plan

Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.

Upload preparation

The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.

East Africa Tourist Visa

USD 199

Tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for 90 days. Enter Uganda first when applying through Uganda. It ends if you leave the three-country area and is not renewable.

Multiple Visa

From USD 199

For repeated visits to Uganda: USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. Validity does not mean you can stay continuously for that entire period.

Additional evidence includes police clearance, two Uganda referee letters, a reason for multiple entry and proof of Uganda entries and exits during the previous year.

Review Multiple Visa →

Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.

Review the Russian Federation selection and residence separately

The inspected Uganda application labels the nationality Russian Federation, while this English guide uses Russia. Review the selected value after opening the form. A Russian citizen living in another country still needs the assessment for the passport used; a non-Russian citizen living in Russia needs that other nationality's check. Current residence is supplied in separate application fields.

For a couple or family holding different passports, prepare each application from its own documents even when the itinerary is identical. Keep the traveller's identity files separate and check each expiry date. If the form's character instructions conflict with a booking abbreviation or a translation of a name, ask about the correct entry before payment rather than inventing a new version of the identity.

Use the entry sequence to choose Tourist, regional or Multiple

For one Uganda holiday, assess the single-entry Tourist option. A Uganda-first holiday continuing to Kenya or Rwanda calls for the regional route check. A later return to Uganda after travel elsewhere raises a separate entry question, especially where the route leaves the three-country area. Compare Multiple Entry evidence before treating a list of future trips as sufficient proof for that category.

Keep the English supporting information, final files and selected total ready for review. Available checkout methods and completion should be checked in the actual payment step; this guide does not promise that a particular card or payment channel will work. Retain the request reference after submission and distinguish it from any issued immigration authorisation. Ask about missing evidence before making a paid request.

Clear answers before you apply

Questions from Russian travellers

Are all Russian passports exempt from Uganda tourist visas?

No. Uganda lists a separate arrangement for Russian diplomatic and official passport holders. It should not be applied to an ordinary tourist passport. Check the document category and purpose before choosing a request.

References: Uganda Immigration: visa exemptions

Why does the Uganda form show Russian Federation?

That is the inspected nationality choice corresponding to the Russian passport. Review it in the form and enter current residence separately. The guide's shorter country name does not change the nationality or passport identity.

References: Uganda Immigration: live application checklist

Which passport should I use if I have two Russian international passports?

Choose the document you intend to carry and keep its scan, number, name and expiry consistent throughout the request. Confirm any case involving an existing permission or a replaced document rather than assuming the visa automatically follows a new passport.

References: Russian MFA Consular Department: international passports · Uganda Immigration: Tourist Visa

Does this guide guarantee a particular Russian payment card will work?

No. Check the methods actually available at checkout and the result of the payment step. A product price or application reference does not prove that a particular payment channel is supported or that immigration has approved the request.

How much is a Uganda visa for Russian citizens?

Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.

How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?

The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?

A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
