Do Japanese citizens need a visa for Uganda?
Japanese ordinary-passport holders need a visa for Uganda. Japan's foreign ministry directs travellers to obtain it online before departure and states that visa on arrival has been abolished. Prepare the passport, category documents and onward or return evidence before travel. Check the immigration permission actually issued and any stay recorded at entry; a product's maximum duration is not an individual grant.

Complete the online permission check before leaving Japan
Japan's Uganda safety-measures page directs travellers to the online immigration system before departure and warns that visa on arrival has been abolished. Plan the application as a pre-travel task. A safari reservation, a flight payment or an email confirming that a request was received should not be treated as a substitute for the immigration authorisation you need to inspect.
Keep the passport details used in the request and compare them with the eventual permission. If an email asks for an additional document, follow that request through the correct system rather than assuming the initial reference is enough. Allow preparation time for corrections and follow-up. Neither a requested travel date nor this website's payment total creates a promise that a decision will be issued before a flight.

Prepare evidence of how you leave Uganda or the region
The Japanese official page draws attention to the importance of return or onward travel evidence. Read the actual booking: does it show your name, destination and intended departure? For a multi-country holiday, make the relationship between a Uganda stay and the later departure understandable. Do not upload an unrelated flight simply because a return-ticket attachment field needs a file.
If the itinerary includes a land crossing and a later international flight, organise the route in order and keep the relevant booking information together. This is a practical document-preparation approach, not a promise that a particular booking format must be accepted. Clarify an unusual route before paying, and confirm any current border or transit requirements separately from the Uganda visa choice.

A Japanese safari traveller has a reference but no issued permission yet
Planning example: Flights are booked and an email identifies the request. Read the actual message and outstanding steps before relying on it for travel.
- Distinguish acknowledgement from a favourable immigration decision.
- Keep onward or return travel evidence ready.
- Inspect the conditions on the issued permission and the actual entry record.

Uganda eVisa requirements for Japanese passport holders
For a Tourist Visa, prepare these files and your travel details. Use the passport you will carry to Uganda. The application checklist changes when you select a different visa category.
Passport biodata page
A clear copy of the details page. Your passport needs at least six months of validity.
Recent passport photograph
A clear passport-style photograph taken within the last six months.
Return ticket
Your return flight or onward travel booking.
Accommodation and travel plan
Have your Uganda accommodation address, intended arrival date, entry point and planned stay ready. Keep booking details and a tour plan available if requested.
The live portal instructions specify JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF, 5–250 KB per file, with supporting documents in English. Keep the original documents for travel. Further evidence may be requested.
Checklist: live immigration portal and tourist visa guidance. Check current entry-document notices and your departure-country travel advice before travel; older category checklists can differ.
Visa options and total prices
Choose by your destinations and entry pattern. These are Uganda Visa totals per applicant in US dollars.
Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.
Read the stay granted instead of calculating it from the product name
Japan's guidance notes that the permitted period is recorded when the traveller is admitted. Uganda's single-entry tourist category can allow a stay of up to three months, but the actual conditions for an individual traveller control the visit. Read the issued permission and the entry record rather than assuming every applicant automatically receives the maximum period described on a website.
A changed departure flight does not itself change immigration permission. If plans need a longer stay, check the official extension process before the existing permission expires. This website's listed products concern the initial Tourist, regional or Multiple request; do not use a new booking or a support message as evidence that an extension was granted. Keep the current dates available when asking an official question.

Separate a regional itinerary from Japanese consular arrangements
For a Japanese traveller planning Uganda and Rwanda, establish the first regional arrival before choosing the product. Uganda-first tourism can be assessed against the East Africa guide; a Kenya-first or Rwanda-first trip needs the appropriate issuing-country route. An airport connection outside the region can raise a separate transit question and is not answered by selecting the regional tourism product.
Japan's travel and consular information covers matters beyond entry permission, including arrangements relevant to longer stays. Read those instructions for their stated purpose without treating registration with Japanese authorities as a Uganda application. Prepare English supporting information from any Japanese-language reservation and keep each traveller's identity files separate. Ask about a missing document before submitting a paid request.

Questions from Japanese travellers
Can a Japanese tourist rely on getting a Uganda visa at the airport?
Japan's foreign ministry says to obtain the visa online before departure and notes that visa on arrival has been abolished. Prepare and inspect the immigration authorisation before travelling; a submission reference is a different record.

Why should a Japanese applicant check the return or onward booking carefully?
Japan's Uganda guidance highlights onward or return travel evidence. Prepare a booking or itinerary that identifies the traveller and explains departure from the visit. Immigration may still ask questions about an unusual route or the supporting evidence.

Does every Japanese Tourist applicant receive the maximum stay?
No maximum advertised period should be treated as an individual grant. Read the authorisation and the stay recorded at entry. A later flight change does not itself extend immigration permission.

Does registering a stay with Japanese authorities submit a Uganda visa?
No. Japanese consular registration and Uganda entry permission serve different purposes. Follow the official instructions applicable to your stay and keep the Uganda application reference and issued permission separately.

How much is a Uganda visa for Japanese citizens?
Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.
How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?
The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?
A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
