Norway passport guide

Uganda eVisa for Norwegian Citizens

Norwegian travellers should calculate passport validity against the whole journey, not only the date they leave home. Norway's Uganda advice uses an end-of-trip reference point, while Uganda's category guidance states an entry requirement. Organise those dates, the appropriate visa and the follow-up records before starting the application.

The short answer

Do Norwegian citizens need a visa for Uganda?

Norwegian ordinary-passport holders need a Uganda visa and should apply online before travel. Norway's foreign ministry recommends a passport valid for at least six months after the journey ends and applying at least five working days before entry. Compare this with Uganda's own instructions and allow time for additional checks; the planning interval is not a promised decision deadline.

Calculate expiry from the Norwegian advice's reference date

Norway's Uganda page says the passport should remain valid for six months after the journey ends. Uganda's tourist category describes at least six months of passport validity. These are differently expressed checks. Put the intended entry, return journey and passport expiry on one timeline so you can identify a renewal issue before paying for an application or finalising non-refundable travel.

Consider an illustrative holiday ending later than its original booking. Moving the return date may matter to the Norwegian advice even if the passport still appears valid on the original arrival date. Recheck the full itinerary after a date change. If renewal is needed, apply using the passport you will actually travel on rather than copying the number from an old scan.

Build preparation time around documents and follow-up

The Norwegian foreign ministry directs applicants to the Uganda electronic system and advises a lead time before entry. Treat this as a planning minimum rather than an approval service level. An incomplete file, a question about the visit or additional evidence can require further steps. Your flight date does not remove those checks and payment does not establish a favourable decision.

Finish the passport and booking review before starting the upload. Keep the email used for the request accessible after submission, including while travelling. When contacting support, use the reference for the provider handling the application and describe the outstanding issue. Avoid starting a second paid request simply because an existing reference has not yet turned into an approval letter.

Your application decision

A Norwegian holiday return date changes before applying

Planning example: The traveller extends the holiday after the first passport check. Norway’s end-of-journey wording makes the revised return date important.

  • Compare expiry with the revised journey end and Uganda’s requirement.
  • Use the replacement passport if renewal is needed before travel.
  • Keep Reiseklar registration separate from the visa record.

  • Return ticket

Your return flight or onward travel booking.

  • Accommodation and travel plan

Review Multiple Visa →

Planning more than one country? Read the East Africa Tourist Visa requirements and first-entry guide. For repeated Uganda visits, compare the 6-, 12- and 24-month Multiple Entry choices. Immigration decides approval and the stay permitted.

Keep Reiseklar and visa follow-up as separate tasks

Norway advises citizens visiting or living in Uganda to register their travel through its registration service or Reiseklar app. That helps the Norwegian authorities with travel information and consular contact. It does not submit a Uganda immigration application, select the visa category or provide the entry permission needed for the trip. Complete the two processes for their different purposes.

The same distinction matters if a passport is lost. Norway's advice describes reporting the loss locally and contacting the responsible Norwegian representation; emergency-document arrangements can take time. A private visa support enquiry cannot replace issuance of a Norwegian travel document. Before applying with any replacement or unusual document, verify acceptance for Uganda and every transit country through the appropriate authorities.

Check the regional route and the date of each instruction

For a Norwegian traveller joining a Uganda-and-Rwanda tour, list the actual first regional arrival. Uganda's regional route applies when Uganda is the first entry; a Nairobi-first holiday requires checking the Kenya route. A long-haul flight can also include a transit country outside the regional product. Do not infer that a flight connection or a tour label decides every entry permission.

Norway's travel page and older visa category lists include health-document wording that differs from Uganda's dated October 2026 entry notice. Compare the instructions without silently merging them. Check the actual application checklist and the other destinations separately, and discuss health questions with a qualified professional. This guide identifies the discrepancy rather than promising that one notice settles every travel requirement.

Questions from Norwegian travellers

Does Norway use the Uganda arrival date for its six-month advice?

Norway's Uganda page says six months after the journey ends. Check that wording alongside Uganda's own category requirement and the carrier's conditions. A later return date can therefore require another passport-expiry check.

Does registering in Reiseklar apply for my Uganda visa?

No. Norwegian travel registration and the Uganda immigration request have different purposes. Keep the registration record separate from the visa reference and any authorisation issued for your passport.

Does applying five working days ahead guarantee a decision?

No. Norway gives advance-application planning guidance, not an approval promise. Allow additional time for missing documents, questions or other checks, and inspect the permission actually issued before departure.

Will Uganda Visa replace a lost Norwegian passport?

No. Report and resolve a lost travel document through the relevant authorities and Norwegian representation. Confirm a replacement document's acceptance for the full route before using its details in a new visa request.

How much is a Uganda visa for Norwegian citizens?

Uganda Visa's total price per applicant is USD 99 for a Tourist Visa and USD 199 for an East Africa Tourist Visa. Multiple Visa costs USD 199 for 6 or 12 months, or USD 299 for 24 months. The selected total appears before you send your application.

How long does a Uganda eVisa take to process?

The review time depends on the visa category, completeness of the application and immigration checks. Submit before travel and allow time for further document requests. Your intended arrival date is not a promised decision date. Monitor the email address used for the application.

How long can I stay, and when should I use my approval?

A single-entry visit can be granted for up to three months; your issued permission controls the actual stay. Uganda Immigration says the approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The travel window and the stay granted are different. Read both before departure.
